Jane Morgan, M.Ed., is the Director of Innovation and Community Learning at the Center for Online and Continuing Education. She collaborates with college personnel interested in building continuing education courses and professional development certificates. In her role, Morgan interacts with the local Chambers of Commerce to learn more about local business and community needs. "The Center for Online and Continuing Education at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø strives to become the community provider of choice for continuing education and professional development needs," said Morgan, who joined the Center for Online and Continuing Education in 2020.
Morgan holds a B.A. in Sociology from the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters with a minor in Public Management and a Master of Education concentration in Higher Education Leadership, from the College of Education. "I was a non-traditional student at Davie who returned to college to complete my degree as a personal goal without the intention of pursuing a career," Morgan said.
According to Morgan, choosing 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Davie was about access. "As a stay-at-home mom with three kids in three different local schools meant that I needed to be close to home and close to their schools and have the flexibility of taking classes at various days and times," she said. "I took advantage of early morning courses, evening classes, and even Saturday courses while working on my Bachelor’s degree. After working at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and taking courses to obtain my Master’s degree, I loved the option of online classes. I can’t say enough about the opportunity 51³Ô¹ÏÍø has given me; I loved being a student here and my life was forever changed through my experiences at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. I was very fortunate to be a scholarship and Pell Grant student which allowed me to complete my degree. Now I give back and hope that my contributions will help future 51³Ô¹ÏÍø come to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø."
Morgan has been employed at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø for over 19 years in various roles including Director of Operations for the Broward Campuses, working in the budget office and overseeing the branch campus cashiering office. Her prior experiences involved interacting with nearly all of the university departments from Academic Departments to Physical Plant, Facilities, and Security. Her earlier roles within the university included academic and event scheduling, campus emergency management planning, and coordinating with 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s co-located partner institutions.
During her time in Campus Operations, Morgan has overseen numerous transformations and renovations on the Broward Campuses including the opening of the 75,000 sq. foot Davie West Building. "Her love and passion for the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Davie are obvious," recalled one visitor who had Morgan give her a tour of the campus. "I feel like I have just been on a Disneyland tour." Morgan has received several awards in recognition of her achievements at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø including the Broward Campuses’ "Owl Friend of the Year" and the University’s "Jeffrey Gabor Exemplary Employee Award".
Morgan, who was born in Soperton, Georgia and now lives in Fort Lauderdale, enjoys time with her family, reading, gardening, and "throwing a lively game of fetch" with her two-year-old standard poodle to relax and unwind.
