The Wayzgoose is an old printers holiday, celebrated mainly in the United Kingdom, said John Cutrone, director of the Jaffe Center for Book Arts. It falls on Aug. 24, or St. Bartholomew's Day, and the date represents the time each summer that lamps and candles had to be brought back into the print shop as to bolster the waning natural sunlight that came with winter's approach.
This years festival features Val Lucas, a woodcut artist and letterpress printer. Lucas, who operates BowerPress in Monkton, Maryland, will be running demonstrations in the print shop all day and will give a gallery talk about her printing practice and finding and collecting presses.
Jeanne Jaffe will also give a gallery talk about the puppetry classes she taught in China in 2018. Jaffes presentation coincides with the current JCBAs exhibition, .
