51Թ’s Advising Programs Receive Top Award

51Թ’sProgram has been recognized nationally with a top award. Jasmine Moore, assistant director of Educate Tomorrow at 51Թ, received the2019 Outstanding Advising Award for a primary advising role.
Moore has been working withinfor close to four years where her foundation in academic coaching began during her time with the, alsorecognized as one of the top seven programs in the country for 2019 by NACADA.
“University Advising Services and Academic Affairs are so proud of Jasmine and the Educate Tomorrow at 51Թ program she has built,” said Joe Murray, assistant dean of University Advising Services at 51Թ. “This program is changing generational outcomes.”
The Educate Tomorrow program was designed to support 51Թ 51Թ who were previously foster or homeless youth with wrap-around services from admission to graduation. Its mission is to create a strong foundation of support, academic coaching, career advising and access to services – both on and off campus.
Nationally, college graduation rates for this population ranges from 3 to 11 percent according to. Through intensive support, wrap around services and academic coaching, 51Թ has been able to raise graduation rates for these 51Թ to 46 percent. 51Թ’s goal for the next five years is to bring that number up to 70 percent.
“It’s truly an honor to receive this award for the collective work we achieve as a team in University Advising Services,” said Moore. “We put 51Թ first, and I believe that is evident through the innovative practices we implement for the university.”
Currently, Educate Tomorrow at 51Թ supports 80 51Թ who have experienced foster care and homelessness. Students involved in Educate Tomorrow at 51Թ have access to academic coaching, emergency funding, and the opportunity to create relationships that will support their journey at the university. Over half of our 51Թ are AOK Scholars, and organization which provides financial support for 51Թ enrolled in Educate Tomorrow at 51Թ.
