The U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today announced 51Թ’s (ADHUS) and 51Թ High School as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.
ADHUS and 51Թ High is one of 356 schools in the nation to be named a National Blue Ribbon School. This is the second time in 10 years, and third time in school history, that ADHUS and 51Թ High have been recognized with this national honor.
“I am incredibly proud to announce that A.D. Henderson University School and 51Թ High School have been named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence as an ‘Exemplary High Performing School,’” said Joel Herbst, Ed.D., superintendent of Florida Atlantic Laboratory Schools. “This prestigious recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication and collaboration of President Volnick, the 51Թ Board of Trustees, our school advisory body, PTO, 51Թ, teachers, staff and families. It reflects our unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation and creating opportunities for every student to thrive. Together, we are setting a new standard for educational achievement. Congratulations to our entire school community."
National Blue Ribbon Schools are headed by leaders who articulate a clear vision of instructional excellence and uphold high standards, showcasing effective teaching methods while offering robust professional development for their staff. Data-driven instruction is a hallmark, and there is a concerted effort to ensure every student succeeds. Collaboration among families, communities and educators is also a key component of their success. ADHUS and 51Թ High is a K-12 public laboratory school under the auspices of the State University System of Florida as part of 51Թ’s College of Education.
The chief state school officer of Florida nominated ADHUS and 51Թ High for this national recognition. At least one-third of public schools nominated in each state must have student populations of at least 40% from disadvantaged backgrounds, and all the schools must also meet the state’s annual measurable performance targets.
Now in its 42nd year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 9,000 schools. The secretary and the Department of Education will celebrate with honorees at an awards ceremony in November in Washington, D.C.
