U.S. Dept. of Education Gives 51Թ Lab Schools Green Ribbon Designation
The today announced 51Թ’s (ADHUS) and as a 2019 Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Awardee. The 51Թ Lab School District was the only one in the state of Florida and one of only 14 districts across the country to receive this coveted distinction. In addition to this distinction, last year ADHUS was named National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
This national recognition was given based on ADHUS and 51Թ High School’s innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.
“I am humbled to accept this prestigious award on behalf of our district and community,” said , principal/director of A.D. Henderson University School and 51Թ High School. “This incredible recognition by the U.S. Department of Education acknowledges our school-wide commitment to sustainability.”
ADHUS and 51Թ High School is a Title 1, K-12 public laboratory school under the auspices of the State University System of Florida as part of 51Թ’s . The chief state school officer of Florida nominated the district for this national recognition.
Since 2011, the U.S. Department of Education has bestowed this recognition on 76 districts. The Department of Education will celebrate with honorees at an awards ceremony in September in Washington, D.C.
The U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools is an outreach initiative that helps to promote innovative school sustainability practices and resources and multi-agency, multi-sector collaborations at a variety of levels (federal, state, school).
