51Թ’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) recently donated surplus computers to the Jamaican Ministry of Education of Youth for preparatory schools in Jamaica.
After upgrading nearly 15 instructional, general purpose and departmental/college computer labs on the Boca Raton campus at the end of the spring semester, the OIT department donated 117 Dell 3030 computers from the Math Emporium Lab.
Since 51Թ replenishes computers on a regular basis, this new partnership will continue to benefit various schools in Jamaica.
“After we took care of our labs and figured out what we had left over, we realized we could send some computers to Jamaica,” said Glen Campbell, OIT associate director of instructional technology at 51Թ. “The Ministry of Education of Youth is working to distribute them out.”
The donated computers will enhance digital education for eight schools in Jamaica. Oliver Mair, consul general of Jamaica, Southern U.S., recently visited 51Թ to pay thanks for the generous donation.
“The Consulate of Jamaica, Miami extends our deep appreciation to 51Թ for their generous contribution of desktop computers to schools in Jamaica,” said Mair. “This continued partnership is indeed appreciated as it will assist many of our schools and 51Թ with much-needed resources. To each individual who has helped to make this partnership a reality, we also say a big thanks, and we look forward to deepening this partnership.”
