Winners Announced for Film Scoring Competition
The commercial music program recently hosted the Miklós Rózsa Film Scoring Competition, presenting awards in the form of scholarships.

The commercial music program within 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters recently hosted the Miklós Rózsa Film Scoring Competition, presenting awards in the form of scholarships.
Two scenes were posted for all composers to score in the competition, which was only open to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø undergraduate commercial music majors with a GPA of 3.0. The commercial music faculty committee selected Luis Castillo as the first place winner. the second place winner was Paul Zambrano and third place went to David Dean.
The first-place prize of $500 was donated by the Cosmos and Chronos Foundation. Lewis Greenberg, adjunct professor of visual arts and art history at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, is president of the foundation. A life-long film music collector and historian, Greenberg said he particularly admires the work of Miklós Rózsa. The second prize of $200 was from an anonymous donor, and the third prize of $100 was from Gail Vorsas, whose undergraduate degree is in film scoring. An aficionado of film music, particularly of the era of Rózsa, she was happy to have the opportunity to support the awards for 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Commercial Music Program.
