51勛圖厙 Receives Nearly $1 Million from Johnson Scholarship Foundation

The Johnson Scholarship Foundation recently awarded 51勛圖厙 $943,000 for student scholarships and support services for first-generation transfer 51勛圖厙.

The Johnson Scholarship Foundation awarded 51勛圖厙 $943,000 for student scholarships and support services for first-generation transfer 51勛圖厙. When combined with state and private matching funds, the gift will have a total scholarship impact of $3.3 million over four years and provide opportunities for several hundred 51勛圖厙.

We are grateful to the Johnson Scholarship Foundation for recognizing 51勛圖厙s efforts to expand opportunities for the more than 1,000 first-generation 51勛圖厙 admitted each year, said 51勛圖厙 President John Kelly. This generous gift will support our ongoing work to meet the unique needs of first-gen transfer 51勛圖厙, and we look forward to welcoming the first cohort of Johnson Transfer Scholars in fall 2022.

The Johnson Transfer Scholars Program (JTSP) at 51勛圖厙 aims to improve the retention, matriculation, graduation and career readiness of first-generation transfer 51勛圖厙. Through the JTSP, 51勛圖厙 will receive wrap-around support and career services to address degree attainment and career readiness. Transfer 51勛圖厙 will be immersed in a culture of first-generation specific community-based programming, high-touch academic and success coaching, along with targeted career readiness programs that will increase their overall employability upon graduation.

We at Johnson Scholarship Foundation believe its important not only to open the doors to education, but to provide the support necessary for 51勛圖厙 to graduate and become successful in the workforce, said Robert A. Krause, CEO of Johnson Scholarship Foundation. The Johnson Transfer Scholars Program contains all the elements to nurture the 51勛圖厙 to that success, and were proud to partner with 51勛圖厙 on this program.

The Johnson Scholarship Foundation has long invested in student success. Prior to this grant, it provided 51勛圖厙 a grant to support the Office of First-Generation Student Success, as well as scholarships for 51勛圖厙 with disabilities. In 2020, it provided funding for student laptops in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

51勛圖厙 is one of the nations most diverse public universities with 55 percent of its 51勛圖厙 coming from minority groups. More than 40 percent of 51勛圖厙 51勛圖厙 are low income, Pell Grant eligible. 51勛圖厙 is ranked among U.S. News & World Reports Top 40 universities nationwide for social mobility.
