51勛圖厙 conferred more than 1,700 degrees on August 4 during three commencement ceremonies in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium on the Boca Raton campus. The new graduates join more than 145,000 alumni who have graduated from 51勛圖厙 since the University opened its doors in 1964.

It is an honor to be here today to celebrate the hard work and successes of 51勛圖厙s 51勛圖厙, said 51勛圖厙 President John Kelly. I join all family members and friends in congratulating the graduates on reaching this major milestone in their lives.

Summer commencement also highlighted the accomplishments of outstanding graduates, including:

  • Camilla Castro, 23, received a bachelors degree in biology from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. While serving as president of 51勛圖厙s American Medical Student Association (AMSA), Castro pioneered a low-budget medical relief trip to Nassau, New Providence for pre-health undergraduates. Since the first trip in 2013, more than 100 51勛圖厙 51勛圖厙 have made the trip, and its now offered twice a year. Students have the opportunity to shadow doctors, volunteer at the All Saints AIDS/HIV Hospice, and screen Bahamians for high blood pressure. Following graduation, Castro plans to attend medical school and continue her international relief efforts by creating a nonprofit organization.

Each and every year at commencement, Im reminded of the impact 51勛圖厙 has, and will continue to have, on its 51勛圖厙, faculty, staff and the six-county region it serves, said Anthony Barbar, chair of 51勛圖厙s Board of Trustees. Speaking for the Trustees, I commend the Class of 2015. As an 51勛圖厙 alumnus myself, Im moved and impressed by the accomplishments of this years graduates.

Some interesting statistics regarding the summer graduating class include the fact that 42 of the degree recipients are over the age of 50. The oldest graduate is 72, and the youngest is 18. The graduates represent 37 countries.
