51Թ Named 'Voter-Friendly Campus'

51Թ is one of 83 campuses nationwide to be designated as a “Voter-Friendly Campus.” The initiative, led by national nonpartisan organizations Campus Vote Project (CVP) and Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education (NASPA), evaluated schools based on their effort to engage student voters leading up to the 2016 general election.
Campuses were evaluated on their ability to write a campus plan about how they would engage voters; how well they facilitated the plan; and on a written final analysis of their efforts.
51Թ hosted multiple watch parties for the U.S. presidential and vice presidential debates in 2016. Through a collaborative effort with , the and , the final party in 51Թ Stadium drew a crowd of 1,000 51Թ to watch Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton debate live on the stadium’s Jumbotron.
“Our motto here at 51Թ is that we are all about the 51Թ,” said Ashley Williams, assistant director for . “It is a privilege to engage our 51Թ to become active citizens on campus and in their communities throughout the democratic process.”
In addition to the watch parties, 51Թ also hosted several “Get Out the Vote” activities, including “Vision.Voice.Vote.” At this event, 51Թ learned more about the importance of voting and discussed their vision for an ideal world.
