More than 50 participants gathered at 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing for the Anne Boykin Institute’s 2026 Summer Academy on May 27-29, making it the academy’s largest attendance in recent years.
Ìý
Centered on the theme, Caring at the Edge of Chaos: Transforming Interprofessional Practice and Healthcare, the event brought together nurses, healthcare professionals, educators and leaders for two and a half days of discussion focused on caring science, healthcare challenges and opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.
Ìý
The academy opened with a presentation by Tim Porter-O’Grady, DM, EdD, ScD(h), co-author of Quantum Leadership: Building Better Partnerships for Sustainable Health. His presentation encouraged participants to consider how leadership, partnerships and innovation can help address challenges facing healthcare today.
Ìý
Throughout the academy, attendees discussed caring science in nursing, the issues nurses and healthcare leaders are working to address, and the ways caring can support stronger interprofessional collaboration. Participants also worked together to develop practical ideas and action plans that could be applied in their organizations and communities.
Ìý
Creativity has long been a part of the Summer Academy experience. Artists-in-residence Thomas and Colleen Hyatt guided participants in the creation of a collaborative artwork inspired by the academy’s theme as well as the experiences and stories shared throughout the event.
Ìý
The resulting 10-by-12-foot piece reflects the ideas and conversations that emerged during the academy and will be displayed in the College of Nursing atrium throughout the summer.
Ìý
The Summer Academy is one of the Anne Boykin Institute’s signature programs, bringing together professionals from a variety of disciplines to explore the role of caring in healthcare, education and human services.
