In alignment with 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s (51³Ô¹ÏÍø) Strategic Plan and the newly announced 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Health Network, the Charles E. Schmidt College Health Intitiative aims to protect and improve human health as one of our strategic areas of research interest. Health related research in the Schmidt College of Science reflects a diverse range of interests and expertise that align with existing strengths and priority areas of the University and region. As such, our research interests represent an inclusive sphere of interdisciplinary themes focused on neuroscience, cancer, obesity, healthy aging, physiology, inflammation, infectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, biophysics, and drug discovery. Schmidt College of Science faculty can rely on a well-managed infrastructure to support their research efforts.

By virtue of its location in South Florida, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø offers tremendous professional and educational opportunities in environmental science. Our six linked campuses are located within minutes of the Everglades and a host of major freshwater ecosystem restoration and water quality monitoring efforts, the Atlantic Ocean, and a low-lying metropolis grappling with the twinned challenges posed by burgeoning population growth and sea-level rise. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is poised to face these challenges with a growing and coordinated group of environmental faculty and 51³Ô¹ÏÍø spanning multiple departments, centers, institutes, and colleges.
